Pulled Pork is Easy and Within Reach at Home!

Hey guys! I know it’s been a bit since I’ve shared a recipe so today I wanted to bring you one of our family favorites. Pulled pork is so amazing, it’s packed with smokey notes and tons of flavor. This version is done in the crockpot leaving you free to do literally anything else with your day while the machine does the work! Seriously though, if you don’t have a crock pot by now, get one!

I use a tried and true barbeque rub that I purchase when I travel South to visit family. It’s called A.C. Legg Barbecue Seasoning & Rub Blend #107. It just had the most perfect balance for BBQ in my opinion but feel free to use your favorite rub here. I have also ordered it from Amazon. The smoke flavor is achieved by using liquid smoke. Don’t knock it till you try it! No muss, no fuss, and no watching a pit for hours! It really is a pain free way of cooking pulled pork.

This is a main staple in our house and we do have it for parties frequently because it’s so easy to make plus it leaves me free to mingle with guests and not have to worry about standing over a stove. I also enjoy the versatility of it. It can do the obvious, sandwiches. Sliders. Serve over mac-n-chez, mashed potatoes, nachos. Tweak the seasoning by adding cumin and citrus and now it can fill tacos, burritos, tamales and more! It is an outstanding base recipe!

Swaps & Specs:

  • Use a large 6-8 quart crock pot. you can use a liner for this recipe if you wish.

  • Use a bone in or boneless cut of pork shoulder, either is fine.

  • I recommend the Legg’s BBQ seasoning rub but and seasoning rub will work.

  • Place the meat in the pot and rub whole thing with the liquid smoke. Then rub with BBQ seasoning until completely covered.

  • Don’t add water! Your meat will not burn, nor with the crockpot catch on fire. It will be fine as long as the cover is on.

  • Once completely cooked, shred meat and put back into cooking liquid! Do not discard it! It’s where all your flavor is. Add remaining seasoning and smoke. Serve it up!

  • It can be place it in a zip lock bag and frozen for up to 3 months without a problem. Simply thaw in fridge or on low in pan.

I hope you try this recipe and enjoy it as much as we do here! Thanks for looking!
