Make your own Tasty Taco Seasoning at Home!

Hello everyone! I went to go write my post for Pulled Pork Burrito Bowls (coming out 10/8/20) and realized a major part of their flavor comes from the Homemade Taco Seasoning that I make. I most certainly can’t do one without the other! You gotta try this version, it just blows away the stuff in the packets! No contest!

These things start out for me as usual, born of a need. I decided on taco for dinner one day, open the cabinet and bam! No taco seasoning to be found! Pinterest was really gaining ground then, so I decided to search there for a taco seasoning recipe. I hit the motherload ya’ll! It was crazy! So many different options!

The Story Goes Like This:

I can’t even remember where I saw the original, or who wrote it but I eventually did find one that I felt was close enough ingredient wise to give a shot. The first time I remember I made it the exact way it was written. It was so good! It had a fresher, sharper taste then the stuff in the envelopes!

After such a great response at the dinner table that night, I decided that’s what I would use from then on. And I did, for years. Fast forward two years, I’m making tacos. I go to reach for my handy dandy taco seasoning only to find an empty spot where this should be. I’m out.

Normally it wasn’t a problem, grab what I need and measure it out, stir and put in my old spice jar. But not this time. I can’t tell you why I was distracted just that I was and before I realized what I was doing, I had measured it out wrong. Again, usually not a big deal but I was out of garlic powder now. Crap.

Well I now had two choices. I could say no to this version and throw it out or I could just run with it and see where it landed. I decided to just go with it. This was the right choice because I’m telling you, you could put that on a flip flop and it would still be good! LOL!

It’s all just happy accidents!

Now with this amended version, I haven’t bought taco seasoning for anything in well over 8 years. I use this in place of literally anywhere it would call for taco seasoning. Because of my larger family and the fact that we love tacos, I make this in big batches. I simply store it in a spice jar that was emptied and cleaned.

Use this amazing spice blend on beef or chicken. We also use it on our elotes! So good! Try it out, you won’t ever go back to the packet ever again.
