Easy Fresh Green Beans the Whole Family will Love

Hey y’all! Welcome to the third installment of Side Dish Saturdays. The recipe today is Fresh Green Beans. Have you ever opened a can of green beans and found stems? What about grayish, brownish beans? Yuck! I kept finding this and I thought why am I buying canned green beans? Fresh is easy and takes just a few minutes to cook.

Fresh green beans can be frozen, used in casseroles or enjoyed steamed and sauteed. I usually add garlic and onion powder to mine! So good! But the best part is the flavor! Fresh green beans have an entirely different flavor. They can also absorb any seasoning you add to them while they cook.

Swaps & Specs:

  • Cook the beans in chicken broth instead of water for a all day cooked flavor.

  • Add other spices, like garlic, onion, bacon, or lemon zest. Use vinegar and make them into a cold salad!

  • To freeze, cook them just under done. Cool and then put in a freezer container. To cook after freezing, just heat up in a pan of broth and butter.

  • Leave the beans whole for a more elegant look or snap them for easier eating. It’s the cook choice here and depends of the use of them I think.

  • To use them in casseroles, just watch the seasonings so it doesn’t conflict with the casserole seasoning. Wouldn’t want to add too much salt! Cook the beans just to under so they don’t get overcooked when adding to a casserole or other dish.
