Seriously Easy Sloppy Joes Made in Minutes!
Hello Friends! Hope you all are enjoying the fall season, the weather shifted recently and the trees are burning bright. Fall is my absolute favorite season! The weather, the beauty of the foliage, campfires, jeans and hoodies! My family does as much as we can outside in the fall because we know what winter brings to our region, so we are unusually busy. Which is why Sloppy Joes is a great weeknight meal because it’s ready so fast!
This recipe comes from my Aunt Sherry. She gave it to me probably almost 20 years ago. Honestly, I haven’t changed a thing! It’s so quick and easy, why complicate things?
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT SLOPPY JOES
I think most people can say they have tried a sloppy joe, loose meat sandwich, manwich, or maid rite sandwich at least once in their life. While the flavors profiles can vary greatly, the one thing they all have in common is they are messy! I love this! Brings me right back to licking my fingers off and using tater tots to swipe up the drippings off the tupperware plates.
- As my family has grown with my 3 sons, so did my cooking portions. These days I find I have to triple this recipe to feed everyone. But with this version, it really is no problem at all. I have even adjusted it to feed 35 without sacrificing flavor! Love it!
- When cooking this for a crowd, I brown the meat, onion and green pepper in a skillet, doing it in batches if necessary. Then dump drained meat mixture into crockpot. Add in remaining ingredients and mix. Set on low for about 2-3 hours. Since the meat is already cooked you are just looking for it to be a little more broken down and flavors marry. It is probably ready sooner but for flavor’s sake let it mellow. Turn your crockpot to warm and it can hang for the duration of any event!
- It’s not from a can! I love this! Not knocking the flavor of manwich, because I do like it but it’s unknown things and preservatives in these processed foods that get me. If I can make it from scratch just as fast then why not?
- Spice things up by adding cayenne pepper, hot sauce or jalapenos to your meat mixture. If you want to go bold, add BBQ sauce in place of the ketchup! Leave the vinegar out if you are sensitive to it. It will still be really good!
- This recipe freezes really well when placed in air tight bags. Simply warm it up for an even quicker meal.
I seriously hope you all try and enjoy this weeknight ready meal as much as we do!
