Easy Cheesesteak Sandwiches That Your Family Will Love!

Happy Monday all! Today I’m bringing you a recipe that will up your sandwich game but not the difficulty. Cheesesteak sandwiches are widely popular and in some areas, hard to find. The combination of meat, cheese, onions and bread just knocks this classic out of the park! Me, being me of course, has to kick it up a notch though. You’ll see what I’m talking about.

When we lived closer to the city, I could find decent cheesesteaks. But once we were living more rurally, hardly no one offered this beauty of a sandwich. And if they did, they weren’t worth remembering.

So as with all things, this recipe was created from the need to eat one but being unable to get a good one. Cheesesteak sandwiches can be made with or without onions, mushrooms, and peppers. Traditionally, it is made with ribeye, Cheez Whiz or Provolone and Amoroso rolls. They are a baking company in Philadelphia that sources out breads and other baked goods locally.

Philly cheesesteaks have been around since the 1930’s. They can be served in a variety of ways and topped with many ingredients. For example:

  1. a pizza steak is a cheesesteak but then topped with marinara and mozzarella then broiled
  2. a cheesesteak hoagie is a cheesesteak with lettuce and tomato
  3. a steak milano is a cheesesteak that is topped with grilled or fried tomatoes and oregano
  4. The Heater which is served at Phillies ballgames is topped with jalapenos, jalapeno cheddar and buffalo sauce.

Try out some variations for fun and find your perfect cheesesteak sandwich!

Swaps & Specs for Cheesesteaks:

  • The rolls need to be a soft but sturdy bread, if your aren’t a Philly native then I would go with Turano or S.Rosen’s. You are making sandwich. Don’t skimp on the bread.

  • At most local grocery stores you can find thinly sliced ribeyes. This is a perfect shortcut. I just stack them and slice them thinly. Easy Peasy!

  • I love the flavors or caramelized onions and garlic so that’s what I add to mine. Then I brighten it up with the green bell peppers. Such a good flavor combo.

  • I lay sliced mozzarella in the bottom of my bread before the meat mixture. You can substitute this with more provolone or whatever cheeses you like best.

  • Don’t like the veggies and just want to go classic style? Just season the meat and cook it through. Add warmed Cheez whiz and slap it all on the bread. Done!

  • I like serving mine with fries or tots! Turn it up extra with some cheese fries or onion rings!

These sandwiches are some of our favorites. Whenever I’ve made them for others, they always want the recipe. Here’s the thing though, it really isn’t a recipe. The simple seasoning lets the ingredients be the true stars and bring the flavor. We hope you like them as much as we do!
