Make the Best Baked Beans in just a few easy steps!

Hey everyone! Happy Saturday! It is time for another installment of Side Dish Saturdays! Up today is Baked Beans. This recipe isn’t completely from scratch though they are actually baked. It’s more like a dressed up version of the canned variety. But don’t knock it until you try it because it is on point I promise! I have made them quite a few times and always get compliments.

Now I use Bush’s Baked Beans for the base here and think the additions compliment the flavor profile in them the best. They are a great side dish with any BBQ meat or as a potluck dish for large crowds. I have also served them with our holiday hams and that is why I’m sharing this side dish now. Many of us will definitely be having ham in just 13 short days! Can’t believe it’s already Christmas! But I digress…

Baked Beans

Baked beans is a great all around American side dish and while I know these aren’t 100% from scratch, they are still 100% amazing! Pairs perfectly with many grilled and roasted meats like beef ribs, steaks and chicken, not just BBQ.

Swaps & Specs for Baked Beans

  • While I prefer Bush’s Original baked beans, they would probably be good with your favorite prepared baked bean. I will caution that the flavor might be different.

  • Want to spice it up add some diced and seeded jalapeno!

  • Try it with cornbread, the sauce soaks right up into all the nooks and crannies of the cornbread! Yum!!

  • You can use a bag of bacon pieces if you are short on time or ingredients. Then in place of the bacon grease for sauteing the veggies, just use a couple tbsp. of butter.

  • I also like the taste better of the Heinz chili sauce but of course, you can use your favorite here as well.

  • I have prepared these in advance and held at the baking point. They taste even better the next day when the beans soak up all that added flavor!

  • This can be kept warm in a crockpot on a warm/low setting. Just stir occasionally to prevent scorching.

Give this side dish a chance. If you aren’t a fan of baked beans, try this recipe and tell me what you think. I think you will be pleasantly surprised! These Baked Beans blow the regular stuff right outta the water with a flavor kick right in the mouth. Enjoy!
